About Me

Just a bit of background info. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan – my hometown that I love dearly. I am a graduate of both Spelman College and Howard University School of Law. At this current juncture in my life, I am headed to New Delhi, India as a Fulbright Award recipient as an English Teaching Assistant.

Something that everyone should know about me is that I love love love butterflies. To me, the butterfly represents growth, change, newfound freedom & our hidden ability to fly to unparalleled heights.  I live my life with the mindset that there is a lesson in everything; therefore, I do not yearn to learn merely from the classroom, but I want to learn from life itself. Every day – good or bad - is welcomed as a much needed growing and learning experience. As a 24 year old woman, I am learning and growing at an exponential rate and my world is constantly changing as I experience new things and get to know myself – my needs, wants, and goals - better with each passing day. Essentially, I am putting together the pieces of me . . . viewing myself as a puzzle that only I (with God’s continued grace/mercy) can finish/put together :-).

As you’ll find out, I am a bit random – i.e. what is about to follow . . . I was looking through some old essays a while back and I came across my personal statement for my application to Spelman College, which I wrote when I was 16 years old. I think this provides a window into who I really am beyond what I do . . .  it’s funny to read this now and see how described myself then . . .

“Jessica has a fiery yet gentle and loving spirit that shines through in all of her endeavors, personally and professionally. As a person, Jessica feels blessed to have the opportunity to love and be loved, fortunate to have the gift of knowledge and the ability to acquire more of it, and she is forever grateful for the gifts of love and life.” Yeah, that’s pretty much still me :-)
